A master of traditional semiotics of symbols. Always at the edge of dream and reality, but still within strict visual discipline. Sigurður Þórir is a painter of strong colors, giving us a feeling hardly observed in nature. Sigurður Þórir Sigurðsson was born in Reykjavík the 31. of March 1948. He studied at the Icelandic Art- and handicraft school during the turbulent years of 1968-1970. Later he began to study at the Copenhagen Art Academy, under the supervision of professor Dan Sterup-Hansen. Sigurður Þórir has spent years teaching art to students, both in high-schools and in the Reykjavík Art School. Sigurður Þórir has been active in the art-community. He has been in the board of the Association of Icelandic Artists and other art related societies. Numerous works by Sigurður Þórir are owned by institutions, companies, individuals and art-museums:
During his carrier Sigurður Þórir has shown his work both alone and also with other renowned artists. His private exhibitions are more than 40 and his joint exhibitions are almost as many! All paintings are oil on canvas.
