Sigrún Lára ShankoStone Carvings in Silk
Sigrún Lára Shanko was born 1955 in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sigrún has worked with silk painting since 1995. From the very beginning her aim has been to perfect her own unique style. She is mostly self-taught, but has also taken various courses to advance her skills to approach the silk in her own unique way. Her work is characterized by vivid colors and striking motives. In March 2003 she opened her studio/gallery Shanko silk in Skólavörðustígur 22c, 101 Reykjavik. Where she is being recognized by her work inspired by the Icelandic Sagas and Norse mythology. Her wall hangings are made of quilted silk where she uses various techniques such as dying, painting and batik. She has participated in international juried exhibitions in Santa Fe, New Mexico, July 2004 and The University of Maryland October to December 2004. Sigrún is a member of The Icelandic Textile Guild, Silk Painters International, USA and The Guild of Silk Painters, UK.
