Sigurður ÖrlygssonFantasy Painter of Composition and FormSigurður Örlygsson is a painter with a clear vision and a strong sense of composition and form. Sigurður Örlygsson was born in Reykjavík 1946. His exposure to art started early since his father was also an artist. Sigurður studied for four years in the Icelandic Art and Craft School. He graduated with a teachers degree in drawing. Later he went to the Copenhagen Art Academy where he studied for a year. Sigurður also studied at the Art Students League in New York. Starting out with abstract paintings Sigurður has developed his style into fantasy and experiments with the modern consumer society. The series portrayed on this site is from his study of leftovers from the consumer society. The technique is a mixture of photography, painting and three dimensional sculpture. Sigurður uses objects nobody else has seen any use for, transposes them and uses to build new forms and creations. Last year Sigurður spent in India and there is one painting on this page. Sigurður is now working from the concept of the original natural element. He says his paintings are either small or extremely large! During the years from 1971 to the present time Sigurður has held numerous exhibitions both in Iceland as well as abroad.
